democrat nominee, and former massachusetts governor, mitt romney, the republican nominee. this debate and the next three, two presidential, one vice presidential, are sponsored by the commission on presidential debates. tonight's 90 minutes will be about domestic issues, and it will follow a format designed by the commission. there will be six, roughly 15 minute segments with two minute answers segment. thousands of people offered suggestions on segment subjects or questions via the internet and other means, but i made the final selections, and for the record, they were not submitted for approval to the commission or the candidates. the segments, as i announced in advance, will be three on the economy and one each on health care, the role of government and governing with an emphasis throughout on differences, specifics and choices. both candidates will also have two-minute closing statements. the audience here in the hall has promised to remain silent. no cheers, applause, boos, hiss among other noisy, distracting things so we may all concentrate on what the candidates have to say. th

chokingly getting a romney rally on the stock market. of course, the widespread opinion is that governor romney won the debate last night and it's absolutely true to say that the stock market will open higher this morning, we're expecting a gain of 40, maybe 50 points, when that opening bell stops ringing and the trading day starts. big issue for both of these gentlemen, more so for governor romney is to get to these undecided voters, the president wants them to seal the deal. governor romney needs them badly according to the latest polls we've seen. today's "wall street journal" poll shows governor romney six points down. . their response to the jobs numbers this morning. governor romney's campaign says this is not what a real recovery looks like. the campaign says, more jobs-- fewer jobs were created in september than in the month of august. and he says this is the real unemployment rate, that would be if all of those drop-outs came back in the labor force, the real unemployment rate would be around 11%. that's just in from the romney camp reacting to the friday morning jobs report showed a decline in jobless rate 7.8% with only 114,000 new jobs created. there are contradictions there and there's some mistrust of the numbers. the stock market opening in the wake of that jobs report. what are we going to see? we are expecting a flat market. down 6 or 7 points in the very, very early going and look, we're dead flat. i want to bring in nicole petallides on the floor of the exchange. because it seems to me that there is no market reaction to one of the biggest economic reports of the year. now, i'm not sure i can explain it, can you? >> i can tell you what the traders are saying. you're absolutely right.

estimation. governor romney brought more energy, and frankly i think more intellect and knowledge to that debate. he just was spectacular. i hear a number of people that keep this been going from the spin room last night talk about the president just not being into it and not being prepared. what we were watching was not a difference in separation, we were watching a difference in capacity. governor romney put on an extraordinary performance. melissa: what do you think becomes the take away quote? i think trickle-down government may be the take away quote. it is so perfect. lou: trickle-down government relentlessly over the course of the days until november 6. it is precisely -- it is precisely frank. melissa: it captures what is going on. lou: this governor laid it out starkly, clearly, this is a choice as he has been saying for some time. it is a choice. between government and freedom, between entitlement and opportunity and he drew that clear line. he did so eloquently and i think just utterly brilliantly. lori: we are both inhaling to ask the question. there is so much to discuss here

governor and libertarian presidential candidate gary johnson breaking down last night's debate and his plans for what he would do to reinvigorate the country. let's start with john. good to see you. the romney bump. is that going on here? >> absolutely. without a doubt. mitt romney put down a strong performance last night and a couple things are behind it. first of all, a solid understanding of business background and regulation en you see that being cheered by certain sectors. the financials standing out especially his comments regarding mortgage loans. there's also a sense that governor romney's success in massachusetts working with a legislature fell 85% democrat but being able to accomplish major things for massachusetts and it has been a number of years. someone suggested four years since we had bipartisan positives out of washington d.c.. given the governor's record the markets would certainly scheerer bipartisan reform as regards to taxes and the fiscal cliff. dave: that is a great point. the fact the we have not seen by partisanship like the president said we were going to see
